Court résumé
Côte d’Ivoire experienced socio-political crisis for nearly a decade (2002-2011), an experience that shaped the erosion of the state’s capacity to manage its health system. Côte d’Ivoire faces a double burden of disease and a large number of preventable deaths. As the Ministry itself notes, several factors impact epidemic preparedness, including: the low coverage of infrastructure; the poor condition and under-equipment of facilities; the inadequacy and uneven spatial distribution of health personnel; patchwork and insufficient health care access for people in rural areas; the low vaccination coverage; and limited access to medicines. Despite these challenges in the health sector, the nation has seen positive economic growth for several years post-crisis and there is opportunity to expand support for improve health.
